What is the IPL device?
Pulsed light treatment is performed in 3 sessions divided over a month, and it is recommended to repeat it once or twice a year. Each session lasts about 5 or 10 minutes, it is completely painless and easy to apply.
This technique is carried out through technology ThermaEye or Ellipse. These are the two most advanced techniques for treating dry eye. Also, both technologies can treat other eye diseases such as blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids).
ThermaEye
It is an advanced technology composed of constant micropulses of low intensity. This allows the natural cooling of the skin during treatment and prevents the occurrence of harmful side effects. Its benefits are:
- A reduction of local inflammation and of the eyelid bags.
- An improvement in the circulation of the treated area.
- The removal of anomalous veins surrounding the Meibomian glands (flicténulas).
In addition, blepharitis treatments can be performed with this technique. Pulsed light generates an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiparasitic effect and is therefore indicated for patients suffering from blepharitis, dysfunction of the meibomian glands and demodex. The treatment consists of 3 or 4 painless IPL sessions spaced in less than 2 months with a duration of 5 or 10 minutes.
Ellipse
Ellipse technology allows all phototypes to be treated without the need for cooling, and especially it can treat the periocular area safely and effectively.
The technique is used for photocoagulation of small and superficial blood vessels, so that in the dry eye treatment you can achieve:
- Better circulation of the treated area.
- A reduction of local inflammation and of the eyelid bags
- The removal of anomalous veins surrounding the Meibomian glands (flicténulas)
- Photorejuvenation and considerable improvement in the texture, luminosity and quality of the skin, thanks to the stimulation of collagen and elastin production in the dermis.
In addition, Ellipse technology is also especially indicated for the treatment of dark circles, as well as for excess vascularization in the periocular area.
What is the result after treatment?
Both with one technique and another, the Meibomian glands will increase tear fat production and improve its quality and hydration of the surface of the eye. In addition, the rapid evaporation of the tear will be avoided and the supply of nutrients needed by the cornea will be improved. The results are very satisfactory and it is considered as the best and most adequate of the current treatments against dry eye due to excessive evaporation.
