The day May 13 Is celebrated the European Day of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Both are part of the so-called Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. In recent years in Spain, cases of Crohn's disease have multiplied by 10 and approximately 2000 new cases, with an increase of 2,5% annual.
This disease affects people of all ages and men and women alike, has no cure and can have very important adverse effects. It is a disease that is not well known to a large part of society because it does not leave physical signals. Is a autoimmune, inflammatory and chronic disease, which evolves in outbreaks and periods of remission and alters the body's ability to digest food and absorb nutrients.
Although its causes are still poorly understood, the factors that intervene in its development are becoming better defined. Experts attribute the appearance of this disease in increasingly younger ages to the consumption of tobacco, diet and living conditions.
The most common symptoms of both diseases are Diarrhea, which can be accompanied by blood, mucus, fever, anemia, feeling of incomplete evacuation, and permanent feeling of fatigue. In addition, the dolor abdominal and anal lesions in fistula mode, ulcers or stenosis.
En Canary Islands since last year we have a project subsidized by the Cabildo that supports people suffering from this disease promoted by the Association of Crohn's patients (ACCU). The project called "'I can not take anymore" has the objective of providing patients with relevant information so that they can identify through a mobile application the restaurants and commercial areas with the greatest influx and with accessible infrastructures that have previously been located by the Association and that have wanted to join the project. According to the members of ACCU, "in many cases the symptoms reduce quality of life so initiatives such as this application that facilitate their day to day make the disease more bearable".
