The search for the complicity of men to combat sexual assaults and other types of sexist violence against women is essential. We tell you.

From CanaryDoctor we join this initiative to involve men more in this fight, with our main tool: truthful information. Help us spread the word and show them that they are not alone ...

Violence against women and girls, a violation of human rights in the middle of the 21 century

Almost 20 years ago, in the year 2000, the UN General Assembly named the November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, inviting governments, international organizations and NGOs to take action on the matter and coordinate activities that raise public awareness regarding the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

La violence against women and girls is one of most widespread human rights violations, persistent and devastating of today's world, about which they are barely informed (due to the impunity enjoyed by the perpetrators, and the silence, stigmatization and shame suffered by the victims).

Violence by a partner, sexual violence and harassment, trafficking in human beings, genital mutilation, child marriage, These are situations that occur daily in the middle of the 21 century.

The Canary Islands seeks the complicity of men to combat gender violence

During the past year, they attended more than 12.000 women for sexist violence. 50 women were killed, and the numbers of children killed have also increased (from 3 to 7, that is, 4 times more). In this sense, the Canary Institute of Equality, has created a control system to analyze the operation of resources and know the system weaknesses

In addition, the judicial organs of the Archipelago, recorded in the second quarter of this year a total of 2.471 complaints of gender violence. A figure that places at Islands as the most punished territory for sexist abuse, with a ratio of 22,6 women for each 10.000.

This is the highest level in Spain, according to data disseminated by the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).

The new campaign against gender violence is aimed at calling for active male participation to position and combat macho behaviors. It also focuses on fighting other attitudes, such as situations of harassment, jokes, intimate images in WhatsApp groups or daily sexist comments that substantiate and justify violence against women and they perpetuate the prevalence of an unequal society.

All this to try to stop the high figures we have in Canary Islands. The sexual assaults among minors have increased by 21%. The campaign puts the focus and hope in the promotion of egalitarian masculinities. Get men to join this fight, that oppose macho situations, that fight against it, that stop normalizing macho situations By simple custom or culture. In short, the campaign seeks to position men in situations of violence against women.

Can you help us by sharing this article among your friends and family to ask them to join the male fight against gender violence? Together, we add more!
