1 Music decreases brain wear.

YesListening to music is an exercise for the mind and, therefore, helps keep it fit. Even people who already have some brain damage, can partially or totally recover some memories and neurological processes learned ... with the help of very rhythmic sounds or music.

2 It lowers blood pressure.

By listening to relaxing music, people with hypertension can reduce their blood pressure and keep it low. Further, It helps keep your heart healthy since listening to it produce endorphins in the brain and these improve vascular health.

Different studies have shown that patients who have undergone cardiac surgery can decrease your anxiety and pain levels thanks to the music.

Music captures and retains our attention, especially if we have a strong emotional bond with the song heard. Researchers have shown that the music we like has more positive effects on tolerance and pain perception and also, reduces anxiety and increases feelings of control over suffering.

Hospital Music Therapy in Canary Islands

In this sense, it is interesting to note that music is an increasingly recurring complement in hospitals. In Canary Islandswe have the project of Hospital Music Therapy, created by the Ministry of Health and the Mapfre Foundation.

It is an initiative that seeks to make the hospital stay more enjoyable, stimulating or relaxing the admitted patient to facilitate communication, learning, mobility and expression.

During the past year at the Maternal and Infant University Hospital, this initiative was developed in the infectious, pediatric surgery, psychiatry, dialysis, specialties and oncology units and in the departments of Oncohematology, Psychiatry and Palliative Care of the University Hospital of Gran Canaria, getting to attend 725 patients in the 935 sessions and 29 concerts held.

For its part, the University Hospital of Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín hosted 350 music therapy sessions, in which 199 patients from the Palliative Care unit participated.

Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital was held 395 sessions in which 174 patients from the Palliative Care and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) units were treated.
