Hospital Music Therapy in Canary Islands
In this sense, it is interesting to note that music is an increasingly recurring complement in hospitals. In Canary Islandswe have the project of Hospital Music Therapy, created by the Ministry of Health and the Mapfre Foundation.
It is an initiative that seeks to make the hospital stay more enjoyable, stimulating or relaxing the admitted patient to facilitate communication, learning, mobility and expression.
During the past year at the Maternal and Infant University Hospital, this initiative was developed in the infectious, pediatric surgery, psychiatry, dialysis, specialties and oncology units and in the departments of Oncohematology, Psychiatry and Palliative Care of the University Hospital of Gran Canaria, getting to attend 725 patients in the 935 sessions and 29 concerts held.
For its part, the University Hospital of Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín hosted 350 music therapy sessions, in which 199 patients from the Palliative Care unit participated.
Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital was held 395 sessions in which 174 patients from the Palliative Care and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) units were treated.
