Cardiovascular diseases in the world
- Every year, almost 18 millions of people die due to cardiovascular diseases; which includes heart disease and cerebrovascular disease
- Cardiovascular diseases are, today, the leading cause of death worldwide
- Estimates suggest that in the year 2030 , the number of deaths related to cardiovascular diseases, could amount to 23 million of people; a figure that certainly leads to reflection Can we do something to improve this estimate? The answer is yes (later we will give you some healthy tips of interest)
Cardiovascular diseases in Canary Islands
- The average age of deaths due to heart attacks in Spain is 78,4 years. The same figure in Canary Islands is 74 years; that is the hearts of the canaries “stop” 4 years before the hearts of the rest of the Spaniards
- As indicated by Dr. Antonio Cabrera de León, who has conducted an important study on heart attacks in Canary Islands, many of these figures on heart attacks in our Autonomous Community, They are related to the high levels of diabetes of our archipelago

Tips to take care of the cardiovascular health of the Canaries
Before we told you that it is estimated that by the year 2030, about 23 millions of people die due to cardiovascular diseases. And we also told you that this figure could improve whenever more and more people (including of course more and more canaries), Change some habits.
In fact, the Spanish Society of Cardiology points out that “Up to 80% of these diseases could be prevented with a healthy lifestyle" So it is worth informing us ...
Small changes, big changes ...
To begin, it helps a lot to know that small changes can make big differences. This encourages and motivates people to take the first steps, knowing that they don't have to make radical changes from one day to the next. We share a list of those small changes. Who knows if taking advantage of the World Heart Day 2019 and after reading this note, you decide to start applying them in your day to day (we would love it to be so) We start:
1 Eating healthy is essential.
There are many measures you can take little by little to achieve that goal.
E.g.: stop eating junk food and so much pastries, stop drinking soda, drink more water until you reach the recommended amounts (at least 8 glasses a day), add more fruits to your breakfasts and more vegetables to your meals, lower consumption of salt ... among other measures that will help, without a doubt, to prevent the increase in cardiovascular diseases in Canary Islands.

2- Exercising is important and necessary.
Take some time to devote to yourself: some are advised 30 minutes a day.
Not only will you see physical benefits, but activating yourself will help your emotional health! Without a doubt, a positive measure that will help you in every way.
3- If you smoke, try to quit that bad habit (and if you drink too much, too)
We know that quitting smoking is not easy in all cases, but it all starts by proposing it to you and knowing how that change It would positively impact your health.
4- The new generations of canaries more aware!
Lastly (and not least), we encourage adults who read this note to become aware of the importance of taking action on time; and can transfer these good habits to the little ones.
