An ultrasound can provide information that leads to or helps make a diagnosis. It can also be used to monitor an existing condition. A doctor may refer a patient for a second opinion in these cases:

  1. When an abnormality has been detected in the baby.
  2. If another scan was suspicious of an anomaly but you can't really identify if there was a problem or not.
  3. When a scan was reported as incomplete.
  4. If the required views of the anatomy were not possible.

The second opinion ultrasound can simply confirm what was said in the first ultrasound. This can be reassuring, confirm the results, and can help you feel more confident about your baby's health.

El Dr. Daniel García, gynecologist and obstetrician at Ginefem, He explains in this video when second opinion ultrasounds are necessary.
