Patients can make up their eyes as soon as 7 days after the intervention. However, while most people experience an immediate improvement in vision after surgery, it may take two to three months for the cornea to fully heal.
Patients are recommended:
- Do not remove the eye protector on the first day.
- Refrain from washing your hair for 2 days after surgery. When you take a shower, avoid the jet of water hitting you directly in the face.
- Do not rub your eyes, especially with dirty hands. You may end up displacing your corneal flap, damaging your eye and risking infection.
- Keep your eyes away from dust, pollen or other particles in the air.
- If anything gets into the eyes, rinse with artificial tears. This method allows you to remove anything in your eyes without rubbing them.
- Refrain from going swimming for 3 weeks. The water in swimming pools, hot tubs and the sea contain high levels of bacteria that you should avoid at all costs.
- Do not exercise for 1 week after surgery.
- For 3 days, limit the amount of time you spend looking at computer screens. If you can avoid it altogether, that would be ideal.
- Avoid areas with smoke.
For best results after surgery, it is important to carefully follow the eye care instructions. It is important to maintain the eye drop program after surgery, usually a combination of antibiotics and steroids for two weeks, plus preservative-free artificial tears for a minimum of one month. Tobacco should be avoided, as smoking can contribute to dry eye syndrome.
