How is prostate cancer diagnosed?

Prostate cancer can be diagnosed after:

See a PCA which is increased.
Un rectal examination suspect.
Una radiography showing an injury.

Faced with this situation, a committee will meet and decide to do a biopsy. In our center we choose to do a perineal biopsy because it is safer and more effective for the patient.

What is a fusion biopsy?

Fusion biopsy consists of joining the image of the resonance. Today is the best image we have to diagnose prostate cancer, with real-time ultrasound. With this we obtain a millimeter precision and, in addition, we improve the diagnostic yield of an 30% to an 90-95%.

What advantages does it offer?

In addition to the advantages that the fusion gives us, we highlight the benefits of the biopsy that we do in our center: the approach. There are two types of approach:

El transrectal approach, which is done through the rectum.
El transperineal approach, is the area between the testicles and the rectum. This approach allows total access to the prostate and obtain up to an 20% more access to tumors than with the transrectal route. In addition, through the transperineal route, being a sterile pathway, it does not pass through the rectum and, thus, we decrease infections that in many cases can become serious.
