Chocolate, cake, cookie? Which one do you choose?
It's been around 35 for years that we've been fighting fat. It all started with the elevation of the statistics of deaths from heart disease, which were directly related to high cholesterol levels. Cholesterol from saturated animal fats and, consequently, fats in general were the center of attack in the pharmaceutical and food industry. All of this led to the birth of the 0% generation.
35 years we have the most obese society in the history of mankind and, interestingly, the statistics of deaths from heart disease have been increasing.
Today we are clear that the problem they are not fats but, rather, the carbohydrates, rapid absorption, which cause insulin spikes and push our body to the manufacture of fat. Although we still do not want to openly acknowledge, due to economic interests, there are more and more voices that support this fact.
Unfortunately, here in Canary Islands, we are at the forefront of obesity statistics, both for children and adults. Sweets and pastry in general, loaded with saturated fats and carbohydrates are part of the diet of more than half of our population.
Of course you can treat yourself and eat a chocolate cake but, if your problem is overweight, you should reduce the amount of carbohydrates you consume, usually in the form of desserts, cakes, and pastries in general, reserving these pleasures for special occasions. Many of the carbohydrates that we can do without are found in soft drinks, cookies, sugar, etc.
Lee product labels and balance your diet so that these whims do not end up affecting, in the short term, your state of health and you can continue enjoying, from time to time, the pleasure of sharing a chocolate cake to celebrate a birthday, an event, a special moment.
