The World Health Organization has issued recommendations and advice on measures that the general population can take to protect themselves and reduce the chances of COVID-19 infection. If you have or know someone over 60, it is important that they take into account the following recommendations:
Wash hands with soap and water frequently, and regularly clean and disinfect surfaces.
Continue to take your regular medications and follow medical advice.
Embrace a healthy lifestyle to support your immune system: eat nutritious food, get enough sleep, don't smoke, stay active, and limit alcohol consumption.
Keep a distance of at least 1 meter with other people and avoid physical contact (handshakes, hugs) with others.
If COVID-19 is spreading in your community, follow the recommendations of stay at home. Avoid going to churches or other large gatherings.
Make sure you have your regular medications for at least a month in case you have to stay home. Plan how you will get more if you need to.
Establish regular communication with family, friends or neighbors and agree on how you will get food and seek medical attention if you become ill.
Learn about the symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath, to be able to identify them quickly in case they appear.
If you have symptoms, Contact the telephone number 900 112 061 (free telephone number for information on the coronavirus in Canary Islands).
Don't feel lonely. Stay in touch with family and friends by phone, chat, video call or email.
