The Minister of Health, María Luisa Carcedo, announced that this week the Community of Madrid will be incorporated into the interoperable electronic prescription system of the National Health System, the last one missing, thereby all Spaniards can now withdraw their medicines at any pharmacy in the country. Catalonia had been the last community to join the interoperability of the digital medical record, as indicated by the minister in the press conference after the Inter-territorial Council.
A project that, already established throughout the National Health System (SNS), It will also allow access to citizens, also from any area of Spain, to their medical history and "move around the country with tranquility."
This is a very important step that favors the digitization of Spanish public health. A common system of personal identification that is centralized in the Ministry of Health, which collects information from all the health cards of the communities and assigns each person a unique identification code for the SNS. This code is the key that allows to link all the health information of a person generated in any health service, regardless of the place of origin of the card or the different formats that they have in each community, which issues it.
The code and the database are the support of both the interoperable recipe system and the shared electronic medical record. And the interoperable clinical history allows the health professionals authorized by each counseling and equipped with a secure digital identification system to access the relevant clinical data to attend to the displaced patients. This is how you get the patient's clinical information travels with him and is available wherever he needs assistance from the SNS.
