Christmas is a time of year that is associated, in terms of health, with weight gain, due to the social importance of gatherings and uncontrolled excesses! Today we are going to talk about overweight and obesity.

During the month of December, we enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, street lighting, shopping, gifts and, of course, the meetings around the table. That is why it is important to be aware of this situation, especially those who are overweight or obese, for whom These dates can become a challenge.

These are dates surrounded by excesses in every way. The one that most affects us without a doubt is the excess of food. Abuse in food and alcohol consumption, both on the most prominent days of the Christmas calendar, as in business meals or with friends (situation that lasts throughout the month).

From Canary Doctor, we give you some interesting facts, which can help you understand the importance of taking care of your diet during these holidays.

Sugar, fat and lack of exercise: ingredients, little beneficial, Christmas

The problem is mainly that Christmas foods are the main causes of weight gain, since most contain an exorbitant number of calories, because its main ingredients are usually found on sugar and / or fats (usually the least healthy), plus a excess alcohol

In the case of kids from home, sugar is the protagonist during these dates. It is common to observe how sweets become gifts or prizes, to "sweeten" and to brighten children; regardless, that the excess sugar is very harmful for the little ones at home and that the adults are the ones who should set the example and not incentivize the relationship: chuche-premium.

Also, another factor to consider is the break with eating habits. During Christmas less fruits and vegetables are consumed, which causes an imbalance in our diet.

To these factors we can add the stop in physical activity. When the holidays arrive, people suppress the time to play sports to dedicate it to family, friends or work meetings, directly related to the celebration of copious meals.

- Drinking alcohol continuously increases the chances of abdominal obesity. The effect of alcohol on accumulated fat is greater in the case of beer than in wine. The European prospective study on cancer and nutrition (EPIC), reveals that alcohol consumption continuously throughout life in men and women, produces abdominal obesity (with increased waist circumference).

- Drinking a lot of salt increases the risk of obesity. It is no secret that too much salt implies an action harmful to our health, since it can increase blood pressure, the risk of heart attack, stroke. However, new studies have now identified a new consequence of a high salt intake: obesity.

- Obesity can cause 11 types of cancer. Science has determined that suffering from obesity increases the risk of suffering: breast, ovarian, kidney, pancreas, colon, rectum, marrow, endometrium, multiple and gastric myeloma.

- Obesity increases the risk of stroke. People who are overweight have higher levels of the amino acid homocysteine in the blood than non-obese people, which increases the risk of stroke.

- Obesity reduces sperm quality. According to a report presented at the Congress of the European Society of Human Reproduction (SCHRE) The sperm of men with obesity is poorer.

- Obesity causes a malfunction of the stomach. A study conducted by the University of Adelaide in Australia, The International Journal of Obesity, shows that the stomach nerves responsible for identifying the satiety of people lose sensitivity after consuming a long-term fat diet. To this is added that the hormone that sends the brain the satiety signal also works worse in people with obesity. These two mechanisms combined make obese people need to eat more to feel full.
