Prior to surgery, our specialists thoroughly review the patient's medical history to ensure that they are a safe candidate for blepharoplasty. You will be asked questions about your vision, tear production, and the need for vision correction. You may also need a full ophthalmologic evaluation before your surgery to check for these problems.
Before the surgery, Drs. They will review all the details of your procedure. You will also be given specific instructions on how to prepare for your eyelid surgery, including guidelines for eating and drinking, taking vitamins and medications, smoking, and aftercare.
What anesthesia is used for eyelid surgery?
Our oculoplastic doctors They work hand in hand with certified anesthesiologists for surgeries.
Most patients comfortably tolerate upper eyelid surgery under local anesthesia, which numbs the eye area. As long as you are awake during eyelid surgery, you will be relaxed and feel no pain. Occasionally, our doctors also use oral or intravenous sedation along with local anesthesia. However, for patients interested in lower eyelid surgery (with or without fat injection), general anesthesia is usually recommended.
Patients usually go home the same day as surgery. Most patients report little or no pain, but our specialists will prescribe pain relievers for the first night and for the following days if necessary.
Our oculoplastic doctors They will send you a list of activities to avoid for the first few weeks while your eyes fully heal. The stitches are removed after about a week.
