New developments in laser eyelid surgery

Blepharoplasty is the name given to the treatment for eyelid aging surgery. It is a very common surgery that, in addition, is very requested. Patients who come for this surgery are seen with a different look as their eyes are more tired and this is what bothers them, look different.

How is the pre-surgery study?

What you need to do first is to explore to see what the patient needs in terms of the components of the look that are the eyelids, the height of the eyebrows and the component of fat bags around the eyes. According to this diagnosis, we will treat it specifically. Of the techniques that there are and that are realized in my consultation with local anesthesia we are going to speak in particular of the CO2 laser.

CO2 laser operation

This carbon dioxide laser allows me to make some suitable but very precise cuts with little or no bleeding. When it comes to the lower eyelid we can have patients with accumulations of fat bags, however, they do not have excess skin, as happens mostly with young patients. So then we do a technique without external scar that we call transconjunctival, that is, through the conjunctiva, we can directly affect and remove the bags of fat without doing a deterioration of the periocular musculature. So it is a very good technique to do a periocular rejuvenation.

In the case that the patient has a bit of fine wrinkles, our laser will allow a retension of the skin of the external surface so that we have optimal results with a young look.

A scarless operation

The scar of the upper eyelid will be just hidden in the crease that we have in the upper eyelid which is where it is located. When we need to make the lower eyelid there is no scar because it would be through the conjunctiva but if it was indicated because the excess skin is striking, we will have to make the incision just on the flange of the lower eyelid flange and that place will remain camouflaged and heals beautifully and this is where our palpebral scars are located.

Is the result of blepharoplasty definitive?

Generally blepharoplasty is a technique that gives a definitive result but it is well known by some patients who have started young because they have already inherited these fatty accumulations that over time have passed many years may require a small touch-up but it is one of the few surgeries which is practically done once for life.
