It is very important to make an assessment of the visual capacity of children in pediatric age in such a way that if the child presents any type of anomaly go to the ophthalmologist at the moment you notice it. Therefore, a routine revision should be carried out after three years in order to rule out fundamentally refractive anomalies that cause the appearance of ocular malfunction and, therefore, the appearance of lazy eyes or, as it is technically known, myopia. For this reason, specialists recommend that parents take their children to a periodic review to rule out any visual pathology.
Also on behalf of the institutions, ophthalmological screening campaigns are being carried out to rule out the existence of myopia or lazy eye that are related to refractive defects or other ocular pathologies.
A first review is recommended when the child collaborates between three years or three and a half years. Then, it is convenient to make a review that could be between one and a half years and two years depending on whether or not there is pathology. If pathology exists, shorten the time depending on the disease that we have seen or lengthen it in the case that there are no eye abnormalities.
The incidence in Canary Islands is quite high, but the most important thing is that the existence of a refractive error that generates a vague eye if detected early is relatively easy to correct. In this way, we can recover the vision of children in a staggered way by making certain treatments, whether prescription glasses or visual rehabilitative treatments.
Currently we have elements of diagnosis and monitoring that rule out the existence of minimal pathologies that at other times we were unable to detect.
