In winter, as in any season of the year, we must take special care with our skin. Each season needs a routine and special care to keep it in the best possible condition.

With the arrival of winter and the drop in temperatures the skin Begin to suffer from tightness, redness and dryness. We must take special care with our skin at this time of year, although with the cold it may not feel like doing the necessary routines. The wind, snow and cold next to the heating of the home or office, and the continuous change between both places daily, makes the skin suffer.

What parts of our skin are the most delicate in the cold?

The most sensitive areas that suffer the most from drops in temperatures are lips, cheeks, neck, hands, and cleavage. Highlighting between these areas the lips, which need more care.

The skin in winter becomes more sensitive than in summer, despite the absence of damage caused by ultraviolet rays. One of the most common alterations as a result of cold is dry skin, called "Cutaneous xerosis" by dermatologists. This cutaneous xerosis is more prone to dehydration, so it is essential to resort to a moisturizing routine adapted to each skin.

Tips to take care of your skin during winter:

The routines for the care of our skin they vary according to the seasonality of the year, since they all affect in a different way. According to specialists, we must:

  1. Pay special attention to the lips and hands:
They are the areas most exposed to changes in temperature and environmental factors. Always have a protective and hydrating lip balm on hand to give them extra protection. Also apply moisturizer to your hands whenever you wash them.

In this sense, avoid repeatedly washing your hands (as long as we are not in the middle of a pandemic). Low temperatures are the main cause of dry hands, so it is important to use good moisturizers. This way you will avoid irritations.

  2. Hydrate well both face and body:
You already know that cold dries out the skin, and although it seems that the body is not exposed to low temperatures, it also suffers from dryness. Therefore, good hydration is essential, especially in the legs, feet, and heels. Remember also that moisturizer face should wear sun protection.

  3. Do not use aggressive hygiene products:
Choose products dermatologically tested and gentle to protect the skin. Do not use aggressive products to wash your face and body.

  4. Although it is difficult, avoid showering with very hot water:
We know that it is very cold and what you want the most is to take a good hot shower. However, these showers dehydrate the skin even more. Therefore, according to specialists, the best for daily hygiene is warm water. Don't forget to apply the hydrating body cream after you shower.

  5. Take special care with food:
As we always recommend, it is essential to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. This affects every inch of our body: bones, muscles, organs, mind, skin… At this time of year, we recommend that you emphasize the consumption of vitamin C and antioxidants.

As in the rest of the year, you should not forget to drink between 1,5L and 2L of water a day, even if you don't feel like it in the cold. And if you have not stopped smoking yet and you are concerned about skin hydration, you should know that it is harmful, just like alcohol.
